General James Cox Chapter, NSDAR
Kokomo IN - Organized 1905
Welcome to our Website!
Our chapter meetings are held the second Tuesday of every month from September to June, not including January. The General James Cox Chapter, NSDAR welcomes guests and prospective members to attend meetings.
Our DAR mission is to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism.
Historic Preservation
The General James Cox Chapter, NSDAR hosted a reception for the Captain Henry Vanderburgh Chapter when they dedicated a marker in honor of "Real Daughter" Mary Forbes Gano Cobb at New London Friends Cemetery. Our Chapter is a member of the Howard County Historical Society.
Education
The Chapter Sponsors DAR Good Citizen Awards and American History essay contests for local students. The Chapter contacts all local high schools to provide applications for chapter, Indiana, and Nationally sponsored DAR scholarships. To celebrate Constitution Week, we have public displays and publicity in the newspaper. Annually, we support the National projects for DAR schools.
Patriotism
The Chapter participates annually in the Memorial Day ceremonies at Crown Point Cemetery and Veterans' Park. We support the Jackson Street Commons for veterans by stocking the break room with coffee supplies. The DAR Ritual is an important part of every meeting. We have maintained the Flag Pole at Foster Park in the past and intend to continue this project as well as provide flags for this pole.
Additional Activities
Our chapter hosts two prospective member genealogy workshops annually in October and May with the Howard County Genealogy Department at the Kokomo-Howard County Library. Chapter members are active at the local, state, and national level.
